Michele Payne is an abstract-expressionist artist based on the coast in Sussex.

Returning to painting over the past five years, Payne has been passionate about drawing and making since she was a child. This led her to graduate from Brighton University with a degree in Printed Textiles + Fashion in 1994. Subsequently, she has been immersed in the world of textile design, working internationally with various brands and on diverse projects.

Payne's passion for pattern and colour is at the root of her art practice. At the same time, she actively approaches the work without a design, aiming for more exciting, spontaneous outcomes and to allow her own aesthetic to come through in the work.

Her paintings are attempts to capture memories and emotional states. Starting with vibrant colour combinations, recent themes have been connection and belonging, which have inspired bright, evocative paintings that incorporate fragmented geometric buildings and imagined landscapes created from blurred memories and glimpses of nature.
